Wicker couch by the stone fireplace, flowered pillows too; potted ferns by the radiator light, yellow broom cornered true. Made a clean sweep about an hour ago; got a whole night to get through. I used to be sleeping like a baby by midnight, I got up before the sun; I never had a problem my dreams couldn’t make right, I never had a riot to run. Now it’s time to keep a watch, and catch up with my sleep a notch until I see the next big fun. I heard the news and I saw its images, it made me wonder if I had a brain I could trust without professional chemicals to help me define sane: call it lazy, even hazy, I won’t argue, drive it crazy—home is where the heart is now. Wicker couch by the stone fireplace, flowered pillows too; potted ferns by the radiator light, yellow broom cornered true. Made a queen sleep about an hour ago, just the way I like to do.
